How long does Adderall stay in your system?

The question can be divided into two parts: 1) how long is Adderall active in your system? and 2) for how long can Adderall be detected in your system?

The half life of regular Adderall in your system is 4 to 6 hours. A single dose needs about 35 hour to be removed out of the system. The half life of Adderall XR dose is 10 to 13 hours. (In XR (extended-release) formulation, different amphetamine salts metabolized at different rates.) The system needs about 60 hours to get rid of it.

As for the detection period, there are various methods of testing the system for Adderall, and they give different results. In urine, Adderall can be found during 1 to 4 days after use. This period can get longer after a chronic use of the medication (up to 7 days). When using saliva testing, detection period is about 3 days, so its efficiency can be compared to urine testing. Blood testing gives a range of about 12 hours, but it is the most precise method which is able to determine the amount of the medication taken. And at last, hair testing. Each 1.5" of growth provides a detection period of about 3 months. So, the shorter hair the person has, the shorter is the detection period. An essential detail: we have to measure hair from the end, as the marks of the past are deposited and left behind as the hair grows on.
